Product Description:

Pearlescent pigments are composed of substances with a higher refractive index, which act as interference filters in environmental media with a low refractive index. These filters divide the incident light arriving at a suitable angle between the interfaces of materials with different refractive index into reflected light and transmitted light parts of complementary colors (the light incident at other angles can also be absorbed and reflected). This effect is identical to the phenomena we observe in our daily life, such as the color of soap bubbles, spilled oil and pearls.

Product Properties:

The pearlescent pigment has low heavy metal content and meets the relevant safety technical standards, thus it can be used in food packaging and children's toys. Neither acid nor alkali can attack the pearlescent pigment under normal temperature. Pearlescent pigment can't be burned, non-spontaneous combustion, non-conductive, and can withstand high temperature of 600~800℃. Pearlescent pigment can also be used in the reactive coating of radiation curing system (electron beam curing, light curing). The special surface chemical structure of pearlescent pigment makes it have excellent hydrophilicity, so it can be applied to water-based coatings, but the lipophilicity is poor, so when it is used in organic system, it will have the problem of poor dispersion, and surface treatment of pearlescent pigment is needed, so that it can also be well applied in organic system.

Pearlescent pigment is mainly divided into the following categories. 
Inorganic base material pearlescent pigment:
Inorganic base pearlescent pigments mainly include high mercury chloride, alkaline lead carbonate, acid lead arsenate, acid lead phosphate and bismuth hydroxide. However, these pearlescent pigments either have potential toxicity or poor chemical stability, so that their use scope is greatly restricted.
Mica-based pearlescent pigment:
Natural mica is an excellent substrate for the preparation of mica pearlescent pigment, which is widely used because of its abundant resources and low manufacturing cost. Mica titanium pearlescent pigment is the most widely researched and technologically mature class of pearlescent pigment. Due to the different refractive indices of titanium dioxide and mica substrate, it produces better pearlescent effect, color effect and perspective flashing color effect through the multiple reflection and interference of light. 
Others:
As the research on pearlescent pigment continues to deepen some other substrate materials are also discovered and used in the preparation process of pearlescent pigment accordingly, such as glass-based pearlescent pigment, aluminum flake based pearlescent pigment, oxide based pearlescent pigment, kaolin, ceramic flake, graphite flake, etc.

Application scope:

1.Textiles
