Azilsartan usually exists as a white to off - white crystalline powder. Structurally, it belongs to the class of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), featuring a complex heterocyclic structure with a tetrazole moiety and other aromatic rings. The tetrazole group plays a crucial role in its binding affinity to the angiotensin II receptor. This unique structure endows Azilsartan with specific pharmacological properties.

In terms of solubility, it has relatively low solubility in water, but shows solubility in some organic solvents like methanol and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). In chemical reactions, although it is relatively stable under normal conditions, it may undergo certain transformations under strong acidic or basic conditions.

Pharmacologically, Azilsartan selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor. By doing so, it inhibits the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone - releasing effects of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and a reduction in blood pressure. Clinically, it is widely used in the treatment of hypertension.
