Paclobutrazol is a new type of plant growth regulator. In trials on pear, peach and other varieties, it has achieved significant dwarfing and yield-increasing effects. It has now been applied to tree species such as apple, grape, hawthorn and citrus.

Application: 

1. Control of field crops
The first function of paclobutrazol is to control the growth of crops. When planting crops such as peanuts, corn, and soybeans, in order to prevent or inhibit the vigorous growth of crops, 15% paclobutrazol wettable powder 40-50g/mu can be used for spraying. If the vigorous growth is obvious, the dosage can be appropriately increased, but the dosage per mu is not recommended to exceed 80g.

2. Control of shoots of fruit trees
In addition to controlling the growth of vigorous crops in the field, paclobutrazol has also been widely used in fruit tree planting areas, such as mango and citrus, in recent years. If a fruit tree has too many new shoots, it will cause nutrient waste, affect the fruit setting and flowering process of the fruit tree, and seriously cause the flowers and fruits to fall off. Therefore, it is necessary to control the growth of new shoots, and paclobutrazol can play this role. For example, in the citrus planting area, growers will use 15% paclobutrazol 300-400 times + potassium phosphite at the beginning of summer shoot budding, and spray twice at an interval of 20 days to control the shoots.

3. Promote tillering (branching)
The most obvious effect of paclobutrazol is that it can eliminate apical dominance and promote the growth of lateral buds. What does it mean? After spraying paclobutrazol, the plant will not grow upwards, and will begin to sprout and grow lateral branches. Therefore, based on this effect, in the seedling stage of rice and wheat, an appropriate amount of paclobutrazol can be sprayed to promote tillering and increase the number of effective spikes in the later stage. For example, in rice nursery fields, spray 15% paclobutrazol 500-750 times to control growth; before tillering of winter wheat seedlings, spray 15% paclobutrazol 30-40g/mu to promote tillering, etc.

4. Scientific cultivation of strong seedlings
The use of paclobutrazol can improve the stress resistance of crops, make crops grow well, and increase yields. Therefore, in recent years, many growers in vegetable areas have used paclobutrazol to cultivate strong seedlings.

If the seedlings of solanaceous vegetables grow vigorously, they can be inhibited by spraying paclobutrazol to reduce the chance of "high-legged seedlings". It is generally recommended that growers spray 15% paclobutrazol 750-1000 times when the seedlings are 3-4 leaves, which will have a significant effect. Seedlings sprayed with paclobutrazol have dark green leaves, strong plants, and are not easy to get sick.
