Potassium alum dodecahydrate is an inorganic substance, also known as alum, with the chemical formula KAl(SO4)2·12H2O. It is a double salt of potassium sulfate and aluminum sulfate containing crystal water. It is soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol. Alum has sour and astringent properties and is cold in nature. It has antibacterial and astringent effects and can be used as traditional Chinese medicine. It can also be used for the preparation of aluminum salts, baking powder, paint, tanning agents, clarifying agents, mordants, papermaking, waterproofing agents, etc. It is commonly used for water purification in daily life.

Application: 
Fire extinguishing agent: The baking soda inside the fire extinguisher fully reacts to release sufficient carbon dioxide for the purpose of extinguishing the fire.

Leavening agent: Accelerate expansion.

Buffering agent: It can be used as a buffering agent in sulfate galvanizing to stabilize the pH value of the plating solution. Potassium aluminum sulfate is used for sulfate galvanizing, brush galvanizing, and the chemical oxidation of magnesium alloys. It can also be used as a coagulant for sewage treatment. When used for galvanizing, attention should be paid to the content of iron and heavy metals.
