Colorless monoclinic crystal system. Odorless, with a cool and bitter taste. Soluble in water, aqueous solution is nearly neutral. Soluble in turpentine and ammonia. Insoluble in alcohol.

Application: 

It is used as a dechlorinator after bleaching of pulp and cotton fabrics, as a chelating agent and antioxidant in food industry, and as a detergent and disinfectant in pharmaceutical industry.
