Silane coupling agent KH-590 is the first widely used coupling agent, which has a history of more than 40 years. One end of its structure has active groups that can react with epoxy, phenolic, polyester and other synthetic resin molecules, such as amino, vinyl and so on. At the other end are alkoxy groups (such as methoxy, ethoxy, etc.) or chlorine atoms connected to silicon, which are hydrolyzed in the presence of water in an aqueous solution or in the air to react with hydroxyl groups on the surface of glass, minerals, and inorganic fillers to produce reactive silanol. Therefore, silane coupling agent is often used in silicate filled epoxy, phenolic, polyester resin and other systems. In addition, it can also be used in the production of FRP to improve its mechanical strength and resistance to wet environments. The organic groups of silane coupling agents react selectively to synthetic resins. Generally, these organic groups lack sufficient reactivity with polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and other synthetic resins, so the coupling effect is poor. In recent years, new silane coupling agents with good coupling effect on polyolefin have been developed, but they are not widely used due to cost and other properties.
